Did you know that the Sun orbits the Milky Way?
According to NASA, "...the Sun - in fact, our whole solar system - orbits around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy".
The Sun orbits around the Milky Way at an orbital velocity of 550,000 mph.
It takes 212 Million years to complete 1 orbit.
The Sun travels, in it's orbit through unknown territory, a distance of about 600 Million miles each month.
Could the Sun's orbit intercept the Great Rift (molecular dust clouds), or some other celestial entity on its journey through the Universe?
When you consider that the Milky Way orbits around something else; our position in the Universe will indeed be unique in Mayan 2012.
